 Subject: The implementation of the ETS in the aviation sector and the project increasing taxation on aviation’s growing CO₂ and NOx emissions

A coalition made up of Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Sweden urged the next Commission to propose new measures on aviation pricing (1) .

In a statement signed by the finance ministers of all nine countries, the group calls on Ursula von der Leyen’s incoming executive to ‘bring the debate on aviation pricing, e.g. in the form of aviation taxation or similar policies, a step further’ (2) .

1. What is the Commission’s position on this proposal, and what does it intend to propose on CO₂ and NOx emissions from aviation, in particular with regard to emissions forecasts in 20-30 years (3) ?

Regarding the proposal to extend the Emissions Trading System to the maritime sector and reduce the free allowances allocated to airlines over time (4) :

3. Does it support the Member States’ initiatives to tax jet fuel (5) , and how it will coordinate other initiatives with the main projects of the EU green deal (6) ?
