Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Ruža Tomašić
 Answer in writing
 Subject: Activation of agricultural land

Currently around one million hectares are under cultivation in Croatia, while three million hectares were cultivation in 1990. Croatia therefore acceded to the European Union with only 35% of its agricultural area being used for agricultural production and eligible for EU aid.

Does the Commission feel that all agricultural land should be in productive use?

Does the Commission have a plan to encourage Member States to activate farmland for agricultural production?
