Internet access for all Europeans
19.12.2019
Question for written answer E-004563/2019
to the Commission
Rule 138
Lefteris Christoforou (PPE)
Internet access is now generally regarded as an integral part of the daily life of every individual, regardless of age. Those who do not have it are at a disadvantage. Their quality of life suffers as a result and they are left unequal to the demands of present-day society and of the educational and economic sectors.
Unimpeded Internet access for all European citizens should accordingly be an EU priority, in line with its digital agenda and its objectives with regard to technology and innovation.
If this can be achieved, enormous social and economic benefits will accrue to the EU itself.
In view of this:
- 1.Can the Commission say whether the EU could launch such an online revolution, ensuring unimpeded Internet access in small countries, such as Cyprus, Malta etc.?
- 2.How will the EU ensure Internet access for all European citizens?
