Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
João Ferreira
 Answer in writing
Subject: Updating the white paper on obesity and future anti-obesity measures

The 2007 White Paper on a Strategy for Europe on Nutrition, Overweight and Obesity-related health issues is the EU’s only document on obesity and is, according to the obesity organisations consulted in the drafting process, very outdated.

Is the Commission willing to launch a process for the modernisation of this document and is any work already under way in this regard? Given the rise in obesity-related problems the Member States and the harm this causes, as documented in World Health Organisation’s reports, are there any plans to incorporate the white paper’s recommendations into future EU legislation?
