Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Roman Haider, Georg Mayer
 Answer in writing
Subject: INSTEX — trade relations with Iran

It is not just since the recent events that the nuclear deal between the Western world and Iran has been somewhat shaky. The situation has been further exacerbated by the most recent events such as the killing of the leader of the Quds Brigades, Qassem Soleimani, in a US missile attack (1) , the repeated attacks on US bases by Iran and its allies (2) , renewed US sanctions against Iran (3) and Iran no longer wishing to comply with the terms of the nuclear deal (4) . In order to circumvent US sanctions, the EU launched the INSTEX project, which aimed to keep Iran in the nuclear deal. Iran, however, is now abandoning the deal.

Does the Commission consider that, by abandoning the nuclear deal, Iran is turning its back on INSTEX?

In the event that Iran distances itself even further from the nuclear deal, does the Commission intend to stop all efforts regarding INSTEX?
