Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Tomasz Frankowski, Marc Tarabella, Theodoros Zagorakis, Tiziana Beghin
 Answer in writing
Subject: Illicit gambling and corruption in sport

Recent conclusions by the Council have once again made explicit the relationship between unregulated or illicit gambling and corruption in sporting competitions. The Commission, however, has decided not to pursue further regulation of the gambling sector, a decision which has a negative impact on consumers, operators and the integrity of sporting competitions.

How does the Commission intend to uphold integrity in sport?

How does the Commission intend to address the risks associated with an unregulated gambling market while also guaranteeing a level playing field for all operators and forms of gambling and a high level of consumer protection in the EU?
