Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Karima Delli
 Subject: Lyon-Turin

It appears that France and Italy have requested a deadline extension for take-up of the EUR 813 781 900 in funding earmarked for the projected Lyon-Turin base tunnel under Grant Agreement 2014-EU-TM-0401-M. Can the Commission confirm this?

If so, can it say whether the INEA has already approved the requested extension? Or is the matter still under examination?

Under EU funding rules, in particular the ‘use it or lose it’ principle evoked on a number of occasions by former European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc, such an extension would not be admissible.

In order to fully elucidate this matter, could the Commission make public any requests of this nature by the two Member States concerned and any opinion delivered by the INEA, together with a record of ongoing deliberations?
