Devastating impact of drought

Question for written answer E-001070/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Daniel Buda (PPE)

Average daily air temperatures in most agricultural regions in Romania are higher than normal during this period of the year, ranging from -8 to 8 degrees Celsius, with positive thermal deviations between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius across the country.

In agro-meteorological terms, the moisture content in soil between 0 and 100 centimetres is particularly low and is declining steadily. Autumn crops are also displaying particularly low moisture values as the drought is becoming increasingly severe and water reserves in the soil have all but dried up.

What tools does the Commission have at its disposal to support farmers who are affected by soil drought and what measures could they take to save their autumn crops?
