Investing in carbon capture technologies

Question for written answer E-001441/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Roberta Metsola (PPE)

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has estimated that to limit increases in global temperatures to 1.5 °C and no higher, capturing and storing hundreds of billions of tonnes of carbon dioxide has to take place by 2100.

In its reply to my Written Question E-007428/2017, the Commission noted that EUR 50 million had been earmarked for investment in large industry projects linked to carbon capture and storage between 2014 and 2017. Could the Commission provide an update on the main results observed from the operation of these projects with a view to keeping up investment in this area over the coming years?
