Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Nora Mebarek
Subject: Regulation of the sharing economy for tourist guides

Most EU Member States regulate tourist guide qualifications in order to protect the public interest, cultural and natural heritage, and consumers. However, there is a lack of national regulations for such services provided via online platforms in the sharing economy.

Is the Commission willing to introduce EU legislation to regulate the sharing economy that would cover services in tourism? Does the Commission agree that such an initiative should ensure a level playing field between legally regulated tourist guides and services provided through online platforms, notably with respect to rights and obligations?
