E-001876/2020
Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Kira Marie Peter-Hansen
 Answer in writing
Subject: Mutual funds to support fisheries

On 13 March, the Commission presented a series of initiatives (2020/0043 (COD)) with the aim of mitigating the impact of Covid-19, including amendments to Regulation No 508/2014 on the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. By means of the amendments, the Commission is proposing that it should be possible for schemes to be set up to guarantee an income for commercial fishermen - in the event of a health crisis - from mutual funds.

It is of crucial importance for the fishing industry - and thus for food supply in the EU - that the fishing industry be helped through the crisis. In order to ensure that the Commission's actions make a real difference to the fisheries sector, would the Commission answer the following questions:

How can Member States actually implement the rules on mutual funds?

Can the Commission provide examples of Member States that have mutual funds?
