Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Salvatore De Meo, Silvio Berlusconi, Massimiliano Salini, Antonio Tajani, Fulvio Martusciello, Aldo Patriciello, Herbert Dorfmann
 Answer in writing
 Subject: Role of wholesale markets in Europe's strategy

Bearing in mind that:

in Europe, wholesale markets play a vital role in the supply and distribution of fresh products from Europe and elsewhere;

they have made a vital contribution to the European system during the pandemic crisis, proving themselves to be a fundamental economic and social pillar;

the development of wholesale markets in recent years has radically transformed simple infrastructures for the sale of fresh products into important logistic platforms and multifunctional centres, not only in the internal market but also in relation to exports;

such logistic centres play the strategic role of regional green hubs for the concentration of products and local distribution to consumers, as they restore value to the producer while at the same time making it possible to reduce CO2 emissions in comparison with those generated by the old distribution systems,

can the Commission say:

whether it intends to recognise the new economic, environmental and employment roles taken on by wholesale logistic centres as part of the European strategic vision?

what position such multifunctional centres can assume in the context of the new Common Agricultural Policy?
