Impact of COVID-19 exit strategy on air transport

Question for written answer  E-002439/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Vangelis Meimarakis (PPE)

As restrictions are lifted with a view to relaunching economic activity and achieving a progressive return to normality, the transport sector will require particular attention.

As the tourist season approaches, priority should be given to the safe transport of European citizens, since without adequate antivirus protection at airports, ports and hotels, the effectiveness of the COVID exit strategy will be only limited.

It is clear that a coordinated European approach is needed. One way of obtaining tangible results is the creation of a European body by accredited national organisations with the necessary scientific expertise and knowledge of the specific situation in each country. This European body must also be supplied with rapid test kits to carry out proper checks on entry to each country.

In view of this:

How is the Commission planning to safeguard international and domestic transport services as part of the COVID exit strategy?

Will it incorporate the above proposal as part of the single European COVID exit strategy?
