E-003468/2020
Question for written answer E-003468/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Patrick Breyer (Verts/ALE)
 Answer in writing
Subject: Promoting ‘authoritative content’ to counter disinformation and misinformation

Citing concerns about disinformation and misinformation, the Commission is calling on digital platform operators to ‘promote authoritative content’.

1. Which sources or content exactly does the Commission consider to be authoritative?

2. Who should be deciding which content is authoritative and should be promoted (state authorities, platform operators, independent fact-checkers, users themselves)?

3. Would the Commission agree that every internet user should be in control of the content proposed to them and the algorithms used to curate that content, and that they should be able to use external software or services to curate content?
