Question for written answer E-003531/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Mario Furore (NI), Chiara Gemma (NI), Isabella Adinolfi (NI)
 Answer in writing
Subject: Cancellation of events and consumer protection

The pandemic has created difficulties for companies that put on shows, as they have been forced to cancel scheduled events for which non-recoverable organisational costs had already been paid. Provision should be made therefore for a specific form of aid, both for the companies concerned and for consumers who need to see their consumer rights recognised.

1. Does the Commission plan to introduce vouchers in this sector too, through arrangements similar to those planned for the transport sector?

2. Does the Commission also envisage setting up a guarantee fund to cover default by organisers that have gone bankrupt as a result of the pandemic and been obliged to close down their business?
