Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Pascal Canfin (Renew)
Subject: Alignment of the 4th PCI (Project of Common Interest) list with the EU Green Deal

The EU and the entire planet are facing an unprecedented health crisis and the institutions are stepping up to coordinate financial support to tackle the impacts of the coronavirus. At the same time, EU public money still risks being wasted on infrastructure projects that are incompatible with the EU Green Deal and climate neutrality, channeling support away from projects needed to shape a future-proof energy system. Both Executive-Vice President Timmermans and Commissioner Simson said that only PCI projects in line with the Green Deal would receive public funding.

1. In light of the ongoing health and economic crises, how will the Commission make sure that the remaining EUR 980 million under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is not invested in projects that are incompatible with the European Green Deal and the climate neutrality objective?

2. How will it evaluate the alignment of the funding under CEF II with the EU Green Deal and the climate neutrality objective?
