The Israeli government’s operation to annex the Jordan Valley

Question for written answer E-003742/2020
to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Rule 138
Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos (NI)

The Israeli government's decision to annex the Jordan Valley and other parts of the West Bank after 1 July comes in the wake of the ‘Deal of the Century’ planned by the United States, which provides for the transfer of Jerusalem to Israel as the ‘the indivisible capital of the State of Israel’, the annexation of the Jordan Valley and the preservation of settlements on the West Bank. This forms part of US plans directed against its rivals in the Middle East as a whole.

These dangerous developments give the lie to all those claims that Trump's proposal is a ‘starting point for negotiations’ and that it could ‘create a certain momentum for a political process that had stopped a long time ago.’

Defying obstacles and the very stringent controls carried out by the Israeli occupation authorities in the West Bank, thousands of Palestinians protested against these plans in Jericho on 22 June. At the same time, the Palestinian Authority announced its withdrawal from all agreements signed with the Israeli State.

In view of the above, will the Vice President / High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the Commission say:
