E-003766/2020
Question for written answer E-003766/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Carlos Zorrinho (S&D)
 Answer in writing
 Subject: WIFI4EU - single authentication

An amount of EUR 120 million has been earmarked for the WIFI4EU initiative (for which I was principal rapporteur) in a bid to provide European citizens with high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity free of charge, involving the award of vouchers to municipalities and the associations representing them, together with a single authentication system providing flexible remote access as a basis for the development of a European service portal.

The Commission accordingly decided to launch the final call for voucher applications from municipalities on 3 and 4 June. In view of this:

1. How and when does the Commission intend to finalise and implement the single authentication system that essential for the official adoption of the initiative?

2. Is it planning to use this system as the basis for a European public service portal?
