Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Guido Reil (ID)
 Subject: Domestic violence and homelessness

Nicolas Schmit, the Commissioner with responsibility for Jobs and Social Rights, has stressed that he wants to take vigorous action to fight the growing phenomenon of homelessness in the Member States.

Domestic violence is one of the main causes of homelessness among women.

If effective measures are to be taken against homelessness, its causes must be analysed and understood in detail. It is important to address every relevant issue openly. A study published by the Bundeskriminalamt (Federal Criminal Police Office) in November 2019 on violence between partners shows that, in the categories of murder, manslaughter, sexual assault, rape, pimping and forced prostitution, the proportion of non-German perpetrators is greater than the proportion of foreigners in the total population of Germany (1) .

1. What studies has the Commission ordered or financed on the link between domestic violence and homelessness?

2. Do these studies provide a breakdown of crimes according to the nationality of the perpetrators and victims?
