Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 138
Roman Haider (ID), Georg Mayer (ID)
 Subject: Nord Stream 2

On 15 July 2020, the United States paved the way for harsh sanctions against Germany relating to the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline which is under construction (1) .

1. Does the Commission consider the imposition of extraterritorial sanctions by the United States to be contrary to international law?

2. Is the Commission still in favour of building the above-mentioned gas pipeline from the point of view of diversifying gas imports into the Union?

3. Does the Commission believe that the construction of the above-mentioned gas pipeline represents a maximisation of the security of imports of gas into the European Union, especially considering the repeated illegal tapping of Russian gas by the transit country Ukraine for its own consumption  (2) ?
