Unilateral actions by Turkey in the Greek and Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and violations of the Greek continental shelf

The dire situation created by the continuing and escalating provocations and unilateral actions by Turkey in the Greek and Cypriot EEZ, the violations of the Greek continental shelf and a general revisionism of international treaties poses a threat to EU Member States’ national sovereignty, international legitimacy, stability, security and peace in the wider region.
Given that the EU needs to exert substantial pressure at the highest political level to reverse these provocations and unilateral actions in order to de-escalate tensions and create the necessary conditions for a meaningful dialogue with Turkey based on international law and the Law of the Sea, can the Council say:
- 1.What specific initiatives and measures does it and the German Presidency intend to take to re-establish EU-Turkey dialogue according to international law, as already called for by top European officials?
- 2.Is it considering imposing or strengthening sanctions in order to stop Turkish provocations?
- 3.Does it intend to carry out political initiatives through dialogue to seek diplomatic solutions regarding the delimitation of the continental shelf/EEZ, in accordance with international law, in order to resolve long-standing disputes and consolidate stability, peace and mutually beneficial economic growth in the region?
