Camí de Ronda (footpath) urbanisation project

Palamós Municipal Council has awarded financing to a project called ‘Parc Natur Urbà’, which has been designed with a view to restoring the Camí de Ronda footpath and will run from the cove of Morro del Vedell to the beach of Castell.

It is inside an urban development area that includes forest land in front of the cove of S’Alguer, on the edge of the town.

It affects a national cultural and geological heritage site and could affect protected or endangered wildlife in the area.

The project does not fix, protect or improve the existing footpath. It excludes a section of the path and, at an expected cost of close to EUR 2 million, it is astronomically expensive. A package of aggressive urban development measures is planned and includes bridges and footbridges, geometric lookout points, concrete retaining walls, ‘gates’, signs, concrete paving designed to look like vegetation, urban landscaping and the felling of pine trees.
