E-004925/2020(ASW)
Answer given by Mr Breton
on behalf of the European Commission
Question reference: E-004925/2020

The Commission recognises the importance of non-agricultural Geographical Indications (GIs) which often make an important part of local identity, attract tourism and contribute to job creation.

As announced in the Industrial Strategy for Europe(1) and the SME(2) Strategy(3), the Commission is working on an Intellectual Property (IP) Action Plan to assess the need to upgrade the legal framework, ensure a smart use of IP and better fight IP theft.

On the basis of the stakeholders’ feedback received on the roadmap published on 10 July 2020(4) and of other available evidence, the Commission will decide on future actions to be included in the IP Action Plan.
