Question for written answer E-005629/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Laura Ferrara (NI)
Subject: 2014-2020 regional operational programme (ROP) for Calabria: results of urban development strategies

A key part of Calabrian cohesion policy for 2014-2020 is the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (the so-called Urban Agenda).

The agglomerations covered by these strategies are regional urban centres and smaller urban centres, for which the Calabria ROP for 2014-2020 has earmarked some EUR 191 million in total.

However, more than two years after the approval of the Strategies (Regional Executive Decision No 283 of 4 July 2018), there is still a lack of information on the implementation of individual measures and on the subsequent take-up of the funding.

Given that, up until a few months ago, only EUR 3 million had been spent for the urban area of Catanzaro (see answer to question E-001083/2020) and in view also of the risks associated with excessive delays in implementation, already highlighted in the answer to question E-004584-17, can the Commission answer the following questions:

1. What results have the urban development strategies produced so far in terms of achieving the financial, output and socio-economic targets?

2. Have any operations and/or projects already been completed and when are citizens expected to be able to benefit fully from the initial work done?

3. What amount has so far been spent under the Calabria ROP 2014-2020 and, in the Commission’s view, will the regional operational programme deadlines be respected?
