The Nagorno-Karabakh issue

Question for written answer E-005718/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Athanasios Konstantinou (NI)
In an interview with the German Bild periodical on 13 October 2020, Armen Sarkissian, the President of Armenia, described Stepanakert, the capital of the ‘Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’, as resembling bombed German cities during the Second World War, referring also to the deaths of civilians, including children.
He accused Azerbaijan of having started the war with no prior attempt at reaching a negotiated settlement and of using Turkish military equipment.
It is reasonable to assume that the European Parliament has been sufficiently well informed by various sources regarding the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and that it is not in the dark regarding this situation.
Turkey has already been already causing enormous problems in two Member States, Cyprus and Greece. This is in addition to the active pursuit of its imperialist ambitions actions in Libya, Syria and now Nagorno-Karabakh. In short, it is becoming a major thorn in the side of EU foreign policy.
In view of this:
- 1.Does the Commission acknowledge the share of responsibility indirectly borne by the EU for such acts of provocation by Turkey?
- 2.Will it take firm action to prevent Turkey from assuming power in the Mediterranean region and riding roughshod over international laws and treaties?
- 3.Will it provide immediate humanitarian aid for the citizens of Nagorno-Karabakh and denounce those responsible for what could effectively amount to war crimes?
