E-006471/2020
Question for written answer  E-006471/2020
to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Rule 138
David Lega (PPE)
 Answer in writing
Subject: The creation of a new EEAS StratCom unit dedicated to Iran

Yesterday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for the creation of an EEAS (European External Action Service) StratCom unit dedicated to Iran and the Middle East.(1)

In the resolution, Parliament urged the EEAS to strengthen its capabilities to counter Iranian interference, disinformation, hybrid warfare, propaganda and espionage by setting up a StratCom Task Force within its Strategic Communications 2: Task Forces and Information Analysis division (SG.AFFGEN.7).

Redeploying parts of the EEAS Task Force Iran to create a StratCom Task Force dedicated to Iran and the Middle East, within SG.AFFGEN.7, would certainly enhance the work already under way in relation to the Middle East and North Africa region.

What steps is the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy prepared to take to enable the swift implementation of Parliament’s call for the creation of a StratCom Task Force dedicated to Iran and the Middle East?
