Impact assessment of the farm-to-fork strategy in the single market
11.12.2020
Question for written answer E-006796/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Jordi Cañas (Renew)
While the farm-to-fork strategy is intended to usher in a transition to European agri-food sustainability and a healthy food environment,
producers across the EU have been expressing concern at the economic and social implications of the Commission’s ambitious targets and their possible impact on competitiveness, productivity and food supply. To this must be added the alarming findings of the US Department of Agriculture[1] regarding the competitiveness of the European agri-food market.
In view of this and bearing in mind the importance of examining exactly what the strategy objectives will mean in practice:
- 1.When will the Commission present a study of the economic and social effects of this strategy on the European single market and its impact on competitiveness?
- 2.Will the Commission study analyse the consequences for each of the Member States, taking into account farming and climate conditions, crop varieties and the problems caused by pests and diseases, and will it examine the impact on each specific agri-food sector?
- 3.What view does the Commission take of the US Department of Agriculture findings regarding the impact of the farm-to-fork strategy in the EU?
