Transparency over EU vaccine procurement contracts
13.1.2021
Question for written answer E-000166/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Jordan Bardella (ID)
According to an article in Le Point on 3 December 2020, headed ‘Vaccins européens: la loi du secret’ [secrecy rules over EU vaccines], a complete lack of transparency surrounds the contracts drawn up between the European Union and the pharmaceutical laboratories for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines. Thus, ‘a few hand-picked MEPs’ are said to have seen the advance purchase agreements, but then only in ‘a secure room’.
- 1.How were the MEPs who have seen these contracts chosen and based on what criteria?
- 2.Does the Commission not think that this sustained lack of transparency is likely to contribute to conspiracy theories and the rising distrust of EU leaders, which it claims it wants to combat, moreover?
