 Answer in writing
Subject: The future EU animal welfare label must cover farming, transport and slaughter

In December 2020, EU agriculture ministers called on the Commission to propose a voluntary EU animal welfare labelling scheme.

In principle, the label would be granted to food produced according to higher standards than those already provided for under EU law. It would therefore significantly improve the conditions of animals on our farms while at the same time boosting the income of the farmers involved in this scheme.

Can the Commission tell us whether the future animal welfare label will provide consumers with information on:

1. the farming method: intensive or extensive, with or without cages?

2. the method of transport: land and/or sea, short or long distance?

3. the method of slaughter: with or without prior stunning?
