E-001222/2021
Question for written answer  E-001222/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Patrick Breyer (Verts/ALE)
 Answer in writing
Subject: Bundling MS Office 365 or M365 with ‘MS Teams’

Microsoft includes ‘MS Teams’ in its MS Office 365 or M365 office package and advertises this as ‘free of charge’(1).

1. How does the Commission view the coupling of a collaborative platform such as MS Teams with an office package such as Office 365?

2. How does it assess the possibility of competitors being pushed from the market and what does the Commission intend to do against it?

3. How can the market pressure on companies resulting from the bundling by Microsoft of Office 365 with other products such as MS Teams be in line with the Commission’s Open Source Software Strategy 2020-2023, and how does the Commission plan to counter this in order to strengthen open-source alternatives on the market?
