In response to the increasing number of reported cases of abuse in sports around the world, and reflecting a global commitment to try and prevent such cases, there have been calls for a new international entity to be established to help manage cases of abuse of children and vulnerable adults in sport.
To that end, FIFA has publicly announced the launch of a consultation process involving sports organisations, intergovernmental authorities, governments and specialist agencies with the aim of establishing an independent, multi-sport, multi-agency international entity to help manage cases of abuse in sport. The initiative reflects a global commitment to help prevent abuse in sport, to support victims and to prosecute perpetrators.
- 1.What has the Commission done so far in this area?
- 2.Does it recognise and support the added value provided by the establishment of a new international entity?
- 3.What concrete steps is it planning to take to support this project?
