Question for written answer  E-002152/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Marian-Jean Marinescu (PPE)

The Commission recently launched a questionnaire to collect views and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public concerning the revision of Directive (EU) 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (RED II). It was open for 12 weeks from November 2020 to February 2021. Public consultation procedures are aimed at increasing the participation of the general public and stakeholders in law- and policy‑making, which is an important goal of the Commission’s better regulation agenda. This is particularly true in the case of the revision of RED II, a crucial piece of legislation for reaching the EU’s climate goals that involves several sectors and economic activities committed to contributing to the green transition.

The main participation results of this consultation show that 38 313 participants out of 39 046 (98 %) provided identical replies requesting changes to bioenergy sustainability based on a non‑governmental organisation campaign.

Is the Commission willing to explain how it will ensure the consideration and analysis of the responses received is fair and balanced, for the sake of transparency and democracy?
