Revision of the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED)
7.9.2021
Question for written answer E-004100/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Dennis Radtke (PPE)
There are plans to revise the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) in the light of climate change, with greenhouse gas emissions from installations covered by the IED regulated more strictly than has so far been the case.
- 1.How can a revised IED encourage the transformation of industry to climate-neutral, sustainable production without creating duplicate rules for energy-intensive industries – which may also be inconsistent or even contradictory – under an existing European Emissions Trading Scheme?
- 2.Cross-sectoral influencing factors such as the availability of renewable energy, energy networks, climate-neutral feedstocks, etc. mean that operators of installations are faced with insoluble inconsistencies in terms of fulfilling mandatory requirements for the climate-neutral operation of their installations. How does the Commission plan to resolve these inconsistencies when it revises the IED?
- 3.What is the weighting of greenhouse gases such as CO2 or methane compared with other pollutants such as NOx or SOx or when the weightings are taken into account in an integrated approach to all environmental media?
