‘Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland impact statement’ for regulations that affect goods covered by the protocol

Question for written answer  E-005693/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Seán Kelly (PPE)

Negotiations over the Ireland/Northern Ireland Protocol have continued to intensify over the past year.

The protocol requires UK authorities to implement and apply the provisions of Union law that the protocol makes applicable in the UK in respect of Northern Ireland.

As standards diverge, further barriers to trade will emerge between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland on the one hand and Great Britain on the other.

Therefore, as part of the governance structure, will the Commission include a ‘Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland impact statement’ for regulations that affect goods covered by the protocol?
