Parliamentary question - E-000752/2022(ASW)Parliamentary question
E-000752/2022(ASW)

Answer given by Ms Kyriakides on behalf of the European Commission

1. The Commission has not received any notification from France, or another Member State, regarding the possible addition to the Nutri-Score scheme[1] of a new score for alcoholic beverages. In case of any notification, the Commission will analyse the project in light of the EC law.

2. The Commission adopted the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan[2] on 3 February 2021. One of its areas of action concerns sustainable cancer prevention, including by reducing harmful alcohol consumption. In this context, the Plan announces that the Commission will propose by the end of 2022 the introduction of mandatory indications of the list of ingredients and the nutrition declaration on alcoholic beverage labels, as is already the case for other pre-packed foods.

To follow-up on this announcement, the Commission will prepare a proposal[3] for revising Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011[4] on the provision of food information to consumers, taking into account the results of an impact assessment, the consultation of Member States and stakeholders, and scientific input.
