Submission of the amendment to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/2072 concerning cold treatment of citrus fruit to the WTO

Question for written answer  E-000924/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Inma Rodríguez-Piñero (S&D)

The Commission is drafting an amendment to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/2072 to ensure that cold treatment becomes a requirement for imports of citrus fruit from non-EU countries where the Thaumatotibia leucotreta pest has been detected. This will affect the requirements for the entry into the EU of certain fruits, including Capsicum (L.), Prunus persica (L.) Batsch and Punica granatum L.

A written procedure for this is currently ongoing. The first technical vote was held in the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed on 8 February. Once the Member States and the Commission have reached agreement, the amendment to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/2072 will be forwarded to the World Trade Organization (WTO) for inspection. During this period, non-EU countries which could be affected by this upcoming legislation will set out their arguments.
