to the Commission
Rule 138
Sara Skyttedal (PPE)
In its report on strengthening Europe in the fight against cancer (2020/2267(INI)), the European Parliament emphasises that other nicotine products play a role in reducing the use of cigarettes and bringing down rates of tobacco-related cancer (see paragraph 12). The report also calls on the Commission to compare the risks of using certain tobacco products with those of using other products.
In the light of the foregoing:
- 1.Does the Commission share Parliament’s view that other nicotine products play a role in reducing the use of cigarettes?
- 2.If so, what legislative initiatives will the Commission bring forward to see to it that cigarettes are superseded by other nicotine products?
- 3.Given its determination to combat cancer, is the Commission prepared to reconsider its previous positions on the status of snus within the EU’s internal market?
