Maximum residue levels for spinosad

Question for written answer  E-001342/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Eric Andrieu (S&D)

We would like to know what was said during the exchange of views at the ‘Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (PAFF Committee) – Section Phytopharmaceuticals – Pesticide Residues’ meeting held on 22 and 23 February 2022 regarding the maximum residue levels for spinosad. We would also like to know the results of the assessment[1].

The summary report for the PAFF Committee meeting of 22–23 November 2021 states that some Member States expressed concern about lowering the maximum residue limits for spinosad for a number of vegetables (sweet peppers/bell peppers, lettuces, escaroles/broad-leaved endives, spinaches, chards/beet leaves and witloofs/Belgian endives). We would like to know which Member States expressed concern and what they said.

Will the Commission keep spinosad on the list of authorised products and substances in organic production given that it has been identified as having endocrine disrupting properties by the European Safety Authority, which proposed classifying it as toxic for reproduction category 2 during the 2018 peer review?
