Parliamentary question - E-001432/2022Parliamentary question

Gas distribution networks

Question for written answer  E-001432/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Carlo Calenda (Renew)

The Commission has set a net zero target for 2050, implying that energy consumption must fully decarbonised by that year.

The Commission’s approach to decarbonisation is outlined in several legislative proposals, such as the Fit for 55 Package and the Hydrogen and Decarbonised Gas Package, which seem to be aimed at electrifying end uses and attaining a zero‑emission building stock to be powered solely by locally produced renewable energy.

Gas distribution networks are best suited to collect biomethane and green hydrogen from decentralised production sites and to efficiently deliver it to end users ‘as is’ or in blends.
