Parliamentary question - E-002103/2022(ASW)Parliamentary question
E-002103/2022(ASW)

Answer given by Ms Vălean on behalf of the European Commission

The European Parliament is well advanced in its work on the Commission proposal on abolishing seasonal time changes and has adopted its first reading position on 26 March 2019 and the mandate for trilogue negotiations on 24 September 2019.

However, the Council has not made progress on the proposal lately. After a progress report under the Austrian Presidency on 3 December 2018, discussions took place at working party level under the Romanian and Finnish Presidencies in 2019. Since then the proposal was not included in the Council agenda.

The Commission also has indications from the current Czech Presidency that the summertime proposal will not figure among their priorities.

It is the task of a Presidency to relaunch the work on the proposal in the Council. From the Commission side, we will support the Council in its assessment of the proposal and we are ready to further discuss with incoming Presidencies how to best take this forward.
