Question for written answer E-002127/2022
to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Rule 138
Fulvio Martusciello (PPE)
Recently, a historic free trade deal between the State of Israel and the United Arab Emirates took place. This agreement will eliminate customs duties on 96 % of food and agricultural products, cosmetics, medical equipment and medicine, according to Israel’s economic ministry. This is a further step since the milestone Abraham Accords between Israel and the UAE and the ensuing agreements with other Arab states.
We ask the Vice-President / High Representative:
- 1.What is the EU doing to be part of these historic agreements? Is any action being considered?
- 2.The Abraham Accords are being strongly implemented within the civil society of the involved parties. How is European civil society being engaged in such developments?
- 3.How does the Vice-President / High Representative envisage discussing these developments with other EU institutions, such as Parliament? Does he intend to appoint a designated figure to help boost the agreements and implement a European role to make it even more successful?
