Temporary repeal of mineral oil taxes in the EU
24.6.2022
Question for written answer E-002267/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Dolors Montserrat (PPE)
The inflation-triggered crisis has millions of European people and SMEs in a chokehold.
In Spain, inflation hit 8.7% in May, and the OECD, no less, is forecasting lower growth for the country as a result of the high percentage increase in prices.
Petrol and diesel have become a luxury that ever fewer people can afford. Prices per litre are now consistently in excess of EUR 2 and experts warn that we could reach EUR 3 this summer.
Both national and European administrations must take every decision in our power to mitigate the cruel effects of a crisis that is destroying families.
In the light of the above:
- 1.With a view to bringing down inflation, would it be possible to temporarily and exceptionally do away with the mineral oil tax in the Member States?
- 2.Has the Spanish Government already submitted a request to that effect?
