The Commission has currently no plans to harmonise the use of designations associated with meat products like ‘burger’, ‘sausage’ or ‘steak’.

At EU level, Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011[1] provides for a comprehensive legal framework on food information to consumers. This regulation clearly states that food information shall not be misleading, in particular, as to the nature, identity and composition of the food.
