A detailed and holistic EU action plan for an energy supply emergency
26.7.2022
Question for written answer E-002731/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Eva Kaili (S&D)
In the last few days, following the Commission’s new action plan on how to save gas for a safe winter, it has become abundantly clear that the EU will continue to depend on high-cost foreign gas supplies for its energy needs.
As such, our economy, the welfare of our societies and the safety of our own citizens are being put in continuous jeopardy.
Now more than ever, before the winter arrives, we need to have a detailed and holistic EU emergency action plan to cover the needs of our societies, citizens and businesses, while also learning from our experiences with the COVID-19 crisis.
In the light of the above:
- 1.Will the Commission consider drafting a comprehensive and holistic new EU action plan to ensure the continuous production and supply of energy for the EU as a whole from renewable energy sources?
- 2.Has the Commission estimated how quickly a renewable sources grid could be deployed in order to ensure normal conditions of supply?
- 3.Could such an action plan include specific provisions for an effective and extended teleworking scheme in the EU based on estimates of the potential volume of energy that could be saved?
