Diesel car exhaust manipulation and market surveillance
30.8.2022
Question for written answer E-002871/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Günther Sidl (S&D)
Permanent defeat devices in diesel cars clearly violate the EU’s type-approval requirements and are not a misunderstood ‘industry standard’. This has been made clear in ECJ rulings[1] or is likely to be confirmed in ongoing proceedings before the ECJ. Follow-up questions therefore arise on the basis of the question I submitted last year (E-002692/2021).
- 1.What steps has the Commission taken in accordance with the EU type-approval procedure and in response to any feedback from Member States since 15 June 2021?
- 2.How many proceedings against manufacturers of diesel cars in the Member States have been brought before the Commission by the authorities responsible for approval and market surveillance?
- 3.Do national authorities responsible for approval have to provide information to affected vehicle owners or their authorised representatives if manufacturers of diesel cars have, since September 2015, made modifications to the exhaust device (e.g. to the AdBlue dosing) after approval?
- [1] Case C‑693/18.
