In her State of the Union address, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that a European Sovereignty Fund would be created with the aim of strengthening our strategic autonomy. I fully endorse this ambition, not least in order to be able to adequately protect critical European infrastructure, among other things.

Given that such a fund would offer many possibilities and that as a result there is the risk that its objective may not be sufficiently targeted, I would like to submit the following questions to the Commission:

• 1.What is the Commission’s timeline for the presentation of a more precise definition of the fund and for its further roll-out?
• 2.Does the Commission agree that the protection of critical infrastructure should be one of the objectives of this fund?
• 3.How does the Commission intend to guarantee the necessary financing of the fund?
