Own resources for the EU budget
2.12.2022
Question for written answer E-003916/2022
to the Commission
Rule 138
Mihai Tudose (S&D)
With the legally binding roadmap established by the Interinstitutional Agreement of December 2020, the European Commission undertook to present by 2024 at the latest a proposal regarding the second set of own resources for the EU budget. Under the terms of the Agreement, this would include a financial transaction tax and a financial contribution linked to the corporate sector.
In view of the new economic situation generated by the fallout from the war in Ukraine and the accompanying energy crisis, which is being perpetuated by the Commission’s failure to act:
- 1.Can the Commission say what progress has been made by preparations for the introduction of these two levies and when it plans to table the matter for public debate?
- 2.How much budget revenue are they expected to generate?
- 3.Is the Commission considering the introduction of a corporate tax and, if so, will it take account of the resulting risks for a business sector already undermined by the pandemic, war and inflation?
