Foreign Influences on NGOs funding

Question for written answer E-000994/2023
to the Commission
Rule 138
Marian-Jean Marinescu (PPE)
On 3 March 2023, I submitted a question[1]to the Commission about the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Transport and Environment (T&E). In this question I mention the fact that this NGO, which is actively lobbying on the main European issues relating to sustainable transport, receives direct funding of between EUR 500 000 and EUR 1 million from the Commission. My previous question referred to the Commission criteria’s for allocating funds to NGOs.
- 1.In the process of evaluating funding allocations for NGOs, does the Commission analyse NGOs other sources of financing?
- 2.Does it look into whether these sources of financing are a form of influence by foreign interests, such as for example China (i.e. the Chinese Communist Party) or the United States?
