The Mercosur Agreement is a trade agreement between the EU and the South American countries Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay[1]. It aims to facilitate trade between the parties by eliminating or reducing tariffs and barriers to trade. It covers a wide range of areas, including trade in goods and services, intellectual property, investment and public procurement.
- 1.How will the Commission ensure that EU farmers, in particular SMEs, are not negatively affected by the competition from cheaper foods imported from Mercosur countries?
- 2.How will it ensure that the Mercosur Agreement supports and does not undermine the implementation of climate action in agriculture, in particular in relation to the deforestation of rainforests for grazing livestock and soya in South America?
- 3.What measures will it take to protect the interests of Austrian farmers, in particular as regards imports of beef from South America?
