In 2022, Israel illegally demolished 101 structures in the occupied Palestinian territories that had been financed by European Union funds. These included hospitals and schools. The number of buildings destroyed by Israel in 2023 already exceeds 300, and forced evictions have left thousands of Palestinians homeless. So far, the Commission has responded with formal or symbolic condemnations. Members of the Netanyahu government have answered repeated appeals by the international community by reiterating their desire to continue expanding Israel’s settlements in Palestinian territory, yet so far the European Union has given no concrete response to this expansion.
- 1.In the light of the latest news, does the Commission not consider that it should take more stringent measures against Israel for its failure to respect human rights, peace negotiations and the sovereignty of the Palestinian Authority and to protect the EU funds that were allocated?
- 2.Does the Commission not consider that it should review its trade partnership with Israel because of its repeated violations of EU standards on the rule of law?
